Manip Academy 2: Soft effects in Photomanipulation
Today's Manip Academy article was written by Cinnamoncandy (https://www.deviantart.com/cinnamoncandy). I am posting it for her, but the full credit for the tutorial should go to her. Please take a moment to share some love and gratitude on her page!
Softening Effects
In today’s Manip Academy blog I’m going to teach you how to achieve a softening effect with your photomanipulations. This is a trick that I often use, especially for fantasy and emotional style pieces.
NOTE: When I do this technique it is usually my finishing step, so my image is duplicated and my layers are already merged.
Step One: Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. I usually set the Rad

How to: Margin + Padding
For this tutorial series I am explaining different elements you can create or modify with the help of CSS. The level of experience that is needed to be able to understand the tutorials can differ and will be in no order.
However I will try to explain the things as simple as possible. Upcoming questions should be left in a comment directly to this blog so that people with similar problems can look them up later as well.

The tutorial series is based on the gruze-structure of journals. If you are still using the old structure or have a journal installed that used it, things won’t work the same way like explained below.

Photomanip: Working with Textures
Welcome!
Textures are a critical part of so many photomanipulations, but they're not as easy to use as they appear. Below are some great examples of photomanipulations that, in my opinion, demonstrate excellent use of textures:
The goal of this article . . .
. . . is to serve as a resource for those of us who enjoy having textures be a predominant part of our photomanipulations and mixed media work so we can learn to use textures properly. Texture misuse or abuse can ruin an entire photomanipulation that otherwise might have been good. No matter how good we are at something, we can always grow to be better.
This journal represents the opini
Back when CSS was allowed for journals for the first time there had been only a few deviants like ClaireJones (https://www.deviantart.com/clairejones), Lilyas (https://www.deviantart.com/lilyas) or kuschelirmel-stock (https://www.deviantart.com/kuschelirmel-stock) who provided free skins for everyone. Through the time more and more people enjoyed working on CSS skins and we also got the chance to skin our galleries.
These days, and thanks to the great resources about journal and gallery CSS that have been created, it is possible for nearly everyone to code their own skins and/or to share them with others. Still there are many people who struggle with some basic things, which is why we want to focus on some of them here.

CSS Tricks: Background Images
Today's CSS Trick will be about using background images in Journal Skins.
There are three types of images that are mostly used in journals skins: big background images, seamlessly repeatable patterns and icon/logo-like images.
Images can be used for all elements of a journal: in the header, footer, behind text, next to text etc.. Any journal element has the ability to contain an image
I cannot stress enough that the main objective of a journal is making written content enjoyable to read. It is all about readability and making it as easy for the reader as possible. Very often I come across pretty journal skins, that have a complete lack of

Hello!
Today I wanted to share a little CSS Trick with you :la: Many other people have done this before, awesome people like Ikue (https://www.deviantart.com/ikue), nichtgraveyet (https://www.deviantart.com/nichtgraveyet) or GinkgoWerkstatt (https://www.deviantart.com/ginkgowerkstatt), and now it's me too :giggle:
This first trick is very simple in execution, but I want to spend some time explaining why you should do it. That's why this journal has become a bit long
All about improving Readability!
When it comes to designing long copy texts, there are quite some challenges in order to create something easy to read and enjoyable to look at. One of the issues that may occur is text, that is running too long. The longer a line of text gets, the hard i
If you are at least slightly into web design and/or using mobile devices to browse, you should have come across the term "Responsive Webdesign". Basically it means that a website is set up in a way so it gives the best browsing experience no matter on what device you are viewing it.
One term that is often mentioned along with it are "Fluid Designs". This usually refers to web sites that use % instead of px values to define sizes inside the layout.
This necessary trend in web design made me think about the deviantART.com layout. Because it is a design that has been working responsive for several years! You can test this by going to any place
